Number of young people leaving Hungary doubled since 2010, says LMP

The number of young people leaving Hungary has doubled since 2010, deputy head of parliament’s education, science and research committee Agnes Osztolykan, of the small opposition LMP party, said on Sunday.

There are more and more young people who want to study abroad and about one third of secondary school leavers say they plan a future abroad, Osztolykan said quoting information she gathered during her recent tour of Hungary. Every fifth Hungarian would be willing to settle and work outside Hungary and nearly half of people in their 20s want to move away and work abroad, she added.

Osztolykan said the withdrawal of funds from higher education had started during the Bajnai government and continued with the current Orban administration. Funding in higher education has been cut by around 40 percent, she added.

Hungary is still far behind the European Union average concerning the proportion of people with higher education, she said.

Nyolc nagyobb csoport irányítja a szélsőségeseket Magyarországon

Jelen pillanatban nyolc olyan szélsőséges csoportot tart számon az Athena Intézet, akiket folyamatosan érdemes górcső alatt tartani. A jelek szerint az extremista csoportok mozgatják immár a szélsőséges focirajongókat is.

Immár több mint három éve tartja nyilván a Magyarországon működő extrémista csoportokat és követi aktivitásukat az Athena Intézet. A belföldi extrémista szervezetek aktivitása, kockázati szintje, feltételezett taglétszáma és a területen belüli relatív súlya folyamatosan változik. Ennek megfelelően a Gyűlöletcsoport térképen ezentúl csak azok a Magyarországon működő extrémista szervezetek szerepelnek, amelyek négyes, vagy annál magasabb szintű kockázati besorolással rendelkeznek.

Az eddig a térképen szereplő szervezetek közül hármas, vagy alacsonyabb szintű kockázati besorolásúak – csupán helyi jelentőségű propaganda-akciók megvalósítására képes szervezetek, például a Blood & Honour Hungária, a Lelkiismeret 88 Csoport, a Skins4skinS – átkerültek a figyelőlistára. A fenti csoportok mellett a Pax Hungarica és a Nemzeti Őrsereg szervezetek kockázati besorolása aktivitásuk és befolyásuk csökkenése miatt négyes szint alá került, így ezek a csoportok is átkerültek a figyelőlistára.

A Magyar Nemzeti Arcvonal kockázati besorolása is csökkentett, mégpedig négyesre, így – mivel az MNA a főbb gyűlöletcsoportok között maradt – tevékenységét továbbra is folyamatosan monitorozzák. A szervezet kettészakadásából fakadó meggyengülése és presztízsvesztése azonban már nem volt figyelmen kívül hagyható.

További három extrémista csoport is inaktívvá vált az elmúlt egy év során: az egyetlen nem szélsőjobboldali ideológiák által motivált szervezet, a Radikális Állatvédők, a Véderő, amely vezetője, Eszes Tamás, halála óta fokozatosan vált inaktívvá, és az Őrző Magyar Gárda, az első gárda (utód)szervezet, amely önmagától szűnt meg.

Összesen egy olyan csoport van, amely az Athéna Intézet figyelőlistájáról felkerült az országos szinten is releváns gyűlöletcsoportok közé: a Kárpát Haza Őrei. Mivel a KHŐ aktivitása az elmúlt egy évben folyamatosan növekvő tendenciát mutatott, szoros kapcsolatot ápolnak a legtöbb hungarista/neonáci, illetve “nemzeti radikális” szervezettel és a proxy-szerepből kilépve egyre több saját, ellenséges propaganda akciót szerveznek, az Intézet értékelése szerint a csoport elérte a radikalizáció következő (4-es) szintjét, ezért tevékenységüket ezentúl rendszeresen monitorozni fogják.

Opposition in Ungarn warnt vor rechtsradikaler “Gehirnwäsche” von Kindern im “Ethik”-Unterricht

Dieser Autor ist Ferenc Bánhegyi, Geschichtslehrer und seit längerem Verfasser von Unterrichtsmaterialien, der vornehmlich Klassenreisen in die “besetzten Gebiete” des Karpatenbeckens, also das Vortrianon-Ungarn organisiert. Auf seinem Internetblog verbreitet er, neben der üblichen ahistorisch-revanchistischen Weinerlichkeit hinsichtlich des Themas Trianon, eine Reihe haarsträubender Verschwörungstheorien zu verschiedenen Aspekten der ungarischen Historie, die im Duktus dem rechtsradikalen Spektrum zuzuordnen sind, zu der u.a. auch die Leugngung der finno-ugrischen Sprachverwandschaft gehört, die aber bis hin zu “Fragen” nach dem “jüdischen Einfluss” auf verschiedene geschichtliche Ereignisse in Ungarn gehen.

Ein Vertreter dieser spirituellen Geschichts”wissenschaft” wurde von Minister Balog vor einem Jahr mit der höchsten staatlichen Wissenschaftsehrung bedacht, Bánhegyi schrammt – in Summe seiner Verlautbarungen – nur knapp am offenen Bekenntnis zur gängigen Rassentheologie vorbei und trifft sich letztlich beim offiziellen Blut-und-Boden-Geschwafel des Ministerpräsidenten, mit dem er die rechte Flanke abdecken will. Der offene Revanchismus, die Idee des Völkischen gibt es schon als Gute-Nacht-Geschichten für kleine Kindern (siehe vorheriger Link), warum also nicht auch als Lehrbuch für die Größeren?

Offen angreifbare Textstellen im Lehrbuch sind u.a. die unreflektierten und klar ideologisch konnotierten Einordnungen wie “die Führer der kommunistischen Räterepublik stammten aus dem Judentum” oder “…deswegen sind die ungebildeten Zigeunerkinder in der Mehrheit…”. Fachleute kritisieren, dass Bánhegyi letztlich die gesamte ungarische Geschichte “von Stephan I. bis Ferenc Gyurcsány als die Geschichte einer einzigen großen Verschwörung” darstellt.

Ein Schulbuch dieses Autors wurde sogar unter der ersten Fidesz-Regierung, nach Elternprotesten, zurückgezogen. “Gemeinsam 2014” weist zudem auf ein persönliches Nahverhältnis zu derjenigen Abteilung der Schulbehörde hin, die die Aufträge für die Schulbücher vergibt, das einmal zu prüfen wäre. Der “Dialog für Ungarn”-Abgeordnete Karácsony ging noch einen Schritt weiter und sagte, dass “eine unmoralische Autorität unseren Kindern nicht Ethik lehren” soll. Die Pflichtschulzeit diene der Vermittlung von Basiswissen, einschließlich sozialer Fertigkeiten. Religionsunterricht sollte fakultativ bleiben.

Shifts in Hungarian Extremism

In the autumn of 2013, eight major extremist groups are active in Hungary: the New Hungarian Guard, the Hungarian National Guard, the Sixty-four Counties Youth Movement, the Outlaws’ Army, the For a Better Future Self Defence, the Guards of the Carpathian Homeland, the kuruc.info and the Hungarian National Front. As a general tendency the groups are becoming less active, whilst the dominance of the “national radical” groups is growing; pushing the skinhead subculture and the Hungarist and neo-Nazi groups further to the background.

The Athena Institute has been identifying extremist groups that are active in Hungary and monitoring their actions for more than three years. The organisations’ level of activity, their threat level, their presumed number of members and their relative influence in the scene are in constant flux. Hence, a year ago, the Institute had already made big changes on our Hate Groups Map, during which several groups were given inactive status and new organisations were added. However, many things have changed in the past year, hence we realised that the time has come for another modification. Thus, henceforth, only groups with a level four or higher threat level will be put on the Hate Groups Map. The groups that have lower threat levels – that are unable to exert their actions on a nationwide level – will be transferred onto the Institute’s Watchlist.

Changes in the Groups
From the groups that used to be on the Map, the Arrabona NS Crew, the Blood & Honour Hungary, the Conscience 88 Group, the NS Straight Edge and the Skins4skinS were transferred to the Watchlist, due to their level three or lower threat level (these are organisations who are only able to carry out propaganda actions of local importance). Besides the aforementioned groups, the threat level of Pax Hungarica and the National Protection Force has been lowered below four due to their diminishing activity and influence, hence these organisations have also been transferred to the Watchlist.

The Institute also lowered the threat level of the Hungarian National front (to level four). The HNF, thus, remained amongst the major extremist groups and our experts will continue to regularly monitor their activities. However, the diminishing power and prestige of this group due to the split that it had gone through could not be ignored any longer.

Besides the above mentioned changes, three groups have become inactive during the past year: the Radical Animal Defenders (the only organisation on our map not motivated by far-right ideology), the Soldiers of the Defence Force (that has become inactive gradually since the suicide of its leader, Tamás Eszes), and the Hereditary Hungarian Guard, the first guards (offshoot) organisation that disbanded by itself.

There is only one group that has been transferred to the Map as a major hate group with countrywide relevance, the Guards of the Carpathian Homeland (GCH). Since they were becoming more and more active in the past year, they have close ties with most Hungarist/neo-Nazi and “national radical” organisations and they also started to organise their own independent hostile propaganda actions, hence stepping out of their previous proxy role, they reached the next, fourth level of radicalisation according to our experts’ assessment, thus, from now on, their activities will be regularly monitored by our colleagues.

  1. az iskolák központosítása ellen;
  2. az esélyteremtő, alternatív iskolák ellehetetlenítése ellen;
  3. mindenfajta kirekesztés és szegregáció ellen;
  4. a politikai, ideológiai megfontolások alapján kialakított központi tanterv ellen;
  5. a tudós kollégák korai kényszernyugdíjaztatása és a felsőoktatás elsorvasztása ellen;.
  6. a szülői és diákjogok korlátozása ellen;.
  7. a hatástanulmányok és a szakma megkérdezése nélkül végrehajtott valamennyi átalakítás ellen;

Követeljük:

  1. a diákok rendőri felügyeletének azonnali megszüntetését az iskolában és az utcán egyaránt;
  2. a minden pedagógiai megfontolással ellentétes 3 éves kortól kötelező óvodáztatás felszámolását;
  3. a 18 éves korig tartó tankötelezettség visszaállítását, hogy elkerüljük a fiatalok tömeges kiesését a rendszerből;
  4. a pedagógusok munkaterheinek visszaállítását a korábbi szintre nem csak azért, mert a jelenlegi plusz terhek sok esetben burkolt bércsökkentést jelentenek, hanem azért is, mert értelmetlen, sőt kontraproduktív kötelezően megszabni az iskola épületében eltöltött időt;
  5. a kierőszakolt és antidemokratikus Pedagógus Kar azonnali felszámolását, amely lehetővé tenné, hogy az oktatási kormányzat a szakmai döntések előtt ne egyeztessen  a független szakmai műhelyekkel, civil szervezetekkel, és amelynek adatbázisába való automatikus felvétel sérti a személyiségi jogokat;
  6. az iskolai autonómia és a tanszabadság haladéktalan visszaállítását.

Hungary struggles to stem flow of emigrating doctors

Already dogged by corruption, low wages and poor working conditions, Hungarian hospitals face another grave threat — an exodus of doctors.
The lure of working abroad for many young doctors in the former communist country is proving irresistible, especially during a period of economic unrest at home.
On average a junior doctor in Hungary takes home around 140,000 forints (420 euros, $555) per month — at least five times less than their colleagues in Britain, Germany or Scandinavia — all favoured destinations for Hungarian doctors, according to Emese Batizan, head of the Budapest branch of the A-Team Medical Recruitment agency.
“Hungarian doctors are sought after in the West due to their good clinical skills and strong work ethic,” she told AFP.
For a young Hungarian however, there is more than just money fuelling the decision to leave for many doctors.
“I work 60-90 hours a week, but the atmosphere is stimulating and open-minded and there are enormous opportunities for learning and development,” Daniel Gero, a 27-year-old Hungarian surgeon who left to work in a clinic in Lausanne, Switzerland, told AFP.
“There are always interesting cases to work on and we use the most modern treatments and practices here,” he said.
In contrast, back home the health service is chronically underfunded: spending per capita is around half the OECD average according to the organisation’s latest statistics.
The health service is also dogged by deeply embedded corruption: most patients pay doctors an agreed cash sum in an envelope — untaxed “gratitude money” for services rendered.
This hinders the training of younger doctors, said Istvan Eger, president of the Hungarian Doctors Association (MOK).
“An older doctor often won’t let a younger one carry out an operation as he would be missing out on money from patients,” he told AFP.
Young graduates hence face a difficult future if they stay in Hungary.

“Ma reggel győzött a jogállam a rendőri önkénnyel szemben! Döntést hozott a Fővárosi Közigazgatási és Munkaügyi Bíróság abban a perben, ami Misetics Bálint, az AVM aktivistája és az ORFK között zajlott az elmúlt hónapokban a ferencvárosi kunyhó-rombolások kapcsán. A bíróság kimondta: nem az AVM aktivistája, hanem a rendőrség volt jogsértő, ezért az ORFK-nak új eljárást kell lefolytatnia. Köszönjük dr. Fazekas Tamásnak a jogi képviseletet.”
