Botrányos NKA-döntés a kulturális fesztiválok támogatásáról

Számos európai uniós önrészpályázatot elutasított, továbbá a nagy múltra visszatekintő L1danceFestet és a nemzetközi monodráma-fesztivált, valamint mások mellett Magyarország legjelentősebb vidéki függetlenszínházi fesztiválját, a THEALTER-t sem tartotta támogatásra méltónak az NKA Kulturális Fesztiválok Kollégiuma.

A szervezet május 6-i ülésén határozott a fesztiválok támogatásáról. A Kálomista Gábor vezette kollégium – amelynek tagjai: Héra Istvánné, a Folklórfesztiválok Magyarországi Szövetsége elnöke, Inkei Péter, a Kelet-Közép-Európai Kulturális Obszervatórium Alapítvány igazgatója, Zimányi Zsófia, a Magyar Művészeti Fesztiválok Szövetségének elnöke, a Rózsavölgyi és Társa Kft. igazgatója, Bodrogai László, a Magyar Turizmus Zrt. Közép-dunántúli Regionális Marketing Igazgatósága igazgatója és Dr. Révész Mária miniszteri tanácsadó – viszonyításképpen: a kommersz színházi előadásokat felvonultató fesztiválok közül 4 millióval támogatta az egri Agria Nyári Játékokat, 5 millióval a Békéscsabai Jókai Színház Városházi Esték programját, 15 millióval a Pécsi Nyári Színház eseménysorozatát, 4 millióval a Tihanyi Szabadtéri Játékokat. A támogatott programok között találni színvonalas művészeti fesztiválokat ugyanúgy, mint számos folklór-, bor-, pálinka-, hal- és vadfesztivált, lovas bemutatót, irodalmi ankétsorozatot, ifjúsági találkozót, egyházi eseményt, városünnepet, de meglepetésre itt kapott támogatást a Kaszás Attila-díj győri átadó gálája is.

Az alapítvány is hasít
A Radnóti-esttel nyertes U-Group Kft. tulajdonosa az Ifjúsági Médiakultúráért Alapítvány (IMA) és a campaign.hu Kft. (utóbbi tulajdonosa a U-Group ügyvezetője, Szőke Ádám Szabolcs és Vág András). Az IMA egy óbudai, Szőlő utcai kis panellakásba van bejegyezve. A civil szervezeteket nyilvántartó bírósági weboldal szerint az alapítvány célja, hogy elősegítse „a magyarországi és határon túli felsőoktatási médiában tevékenységet végzők szakmai munkájának fejlődését, továbbá a kábítószer-fogyasztás visszaszorításának elősegítése és az egészséges életmód népszerűsítése a felsőoktatási média segítségével”.

Jonas Staal: Art. Democratism. Propaganda.

There is something deeply propagandistic in the disappearance of the notion of propaganda from artistic discourse. The word only resurfaces bluntly to dismiss certain practices as one-dimensional, as pamphletism, or as ideological and doctrinal. In our capitalist-democratic age, art is merely expected to “hold up mirrors,” to “ask questions,” and to show the ambiguities of our existence. As Hito Steyerl succinctly stated: “If contemporary art is the answer, the question is: How can capitalism be made more beautiful?”1 Art’s answer comes precisely in the form of a permanent critical questioning insulated from affecting the foundation of violent exploitation that sustains the capitalist-democratic doctrine.

The disappearance of the notion of propaganda is the result of a delicate ideological operation meant to obscure the fact that modern propaganda was developed by capitalist-democratic countries, rather than by so-called totalitarian ones. Our unwillingness to speak of art as propaganda proves the success of this operation. The Venice Biennale and its relation to the phenomenon of the world fair is a case study that could help us both understand the inherent propagandistic role of art in capitalist democracy, and reactivate our political relation to the practice of art in the realm of global politics.

Jona Staal: DEMOCRATISM: An introduction to five models of civil protest

This booklet comprises a series of public interventions in Tokyo and a context-specific essay, realized by writer Vincent W.J. van Gerven Oei and visual artist Jonas Staal during a “Creator in Residence” working period at Tokyo Wonder Site Aoyama, Tokyo, Japan. The title “Democratism” refers to the ambiguous status of the concept of democracy in the Japanese language (minshushugi) as an “-ism” (-shugi), just like capitalism, relativism, or marxism. This fact makes the concept of “democracy,” which Western countries often propound as the final and perfect product of occidental intellectual development, just one of the many options the Japanese can choose from to be enacted.

It reduces a “unique” and “civilized” concept to a mere multiplicity of rules, opinions, and strategies for communication.

Washingtonból üzentek Orbánnak

A Szabadság téri emlékmű megépítésére vonatkozó tervek felülvizsgálatát kérte Orbán Viktor miniszterelnöktől csütörtökön harminc zsidó származású amerikai szenátor és képviselő.

Az aláírók a Zsidó Világkongresszus (WJC) honlapján közölt levelükben úgy fogalmaztak: az amerikai kongresszus tagjaként, valamint a két ország partnerségének régi támogatójaként aggodalmukat fejezik ki a magyar kormány azon döntése miatt, hogy folytatja a “náci megszállás alatt elszenvedett tragédiákról megemlékező vitatott emlékmű” építését.
“Magyarország náci megszállása szörnyű időszak volt a magyar történelemben, amely felbecsülhetetlen szenvedést és tragédiát okozott ártatlan embernek millióinak. És miközben voltak olyanok Magyarországon, akik aktívan segítették a nácik által üldözötteket, nem lehet figyelmen kívül hagyni, hogy a lakosság egy része akkor készségesen vett részt a nácik fellépésében, beleértve a magyar zsidók deportálását” – írták az amerikai törvényhozók.

30 Jewish US Congressmen, senators urge Hungarian PM Orban to reconsider Nazi occupation monument

Representative Eliot L. Engel, chairman of the International Council of Jewish Parliamentarians (ICJP) and leading Democrat on the House Committee on Foreign Affairs, was joined by 29 other Jewish senators and representatives in calling on Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban to reconsider his current plans for the construction of a controversial monument in Budapest commemorating the victims of the Nazi occupation of Hungary.

In the letter, the lawmakers expressed “deep concern over [the] government’s decision to move forward with the construction of a controversial monument commemorating the tragedies suffered in Hungary under Nazi occupation.”

“Hungary is an important ally and partner of the United States. But we believe that partners need to speak frankly with one another,” said Rep. Engel.  “The Hungarian Jewish population suffered perhaps worse than anyone else in Hungary during the Nazi occupation, and any commemoration has to be sensitive to that.  We think that the Hungarian government should build an appropriate memorial that tells the entire Hungarian story of the Nazi Occupation, not one that whitewashes the truth.”

The Federation of Hungarian Jewish Communities (Mazsihisz) recently decided to avoid official commemorations of the 70th anniversary of the Nazi occupation over the design of the monument, in addition to a number of other contentious issues. Critics argue that the monument diminishes the prominent role the pro-Nazi Hungarian government had in the deportation of more than half a million Jews during the Holocaust, most of whom were murdered in Auschwitz.

“Hungary is a valued NATO ally and European partner with a long, impressive history — but one that includes a dark period of complicity during the Holocaust,” said Rep. Henry Waxman, adding: “I am concerned that this proposed monument glosses over the role played by Hungarian authorities at the time in deporting its Jewish population, and it is my hope that Prime Minister Orban will work with Hungarian Jewish organizations to design a memorial that respects the experience of all Hungarians during World War II.”

Seit Jahren erklärt Viktor Orban seinen Anhängern, dass der EU der Respekt vor Ungarn fehle. Gleichzeitig tritt er europäische Werte wie die Presse- oder Religionsfreiheit mit Füßen. Rolf-Dieter Krause berichtet aus Budapest über eine Politik, die nicht einmal für die Ärmsten Mitgefühl hat.

Juli Varadi – hier im Gespräch mit Rolf-Dieter Krause – ist von der Entwicklung Ungarns enttäuscht.

Budapest geht erst einmal mit Ärger los. Das ganze Team ist müde, der Flug von Paris nach Budapest ging früh und wir haben bis in die Nacht gearbeitet und gerade mal dreieinhalb Stunden geschlafen. Aber immerhin, wir sind in Ungarn angekommen, nur leider unser Kamerastativ nicht. Das hat die Air France liegen lassen. Man will es uns bis zum Abend ins Hotel bringen, aber jetzt brauchen wir erst mal eines für den Tag. Unser Producer setzt alle Hebel in Bewegung, um ein Leihgerät in Budapest aufzutreiben und ich muss mir meinen Ärger von der Seele twittern.
