NEMMA

A NEMMA létrehozásának közvetlen oka a Műcsarnok Magyar Művészeti Akadémiához csatolása. Az MMA központosított és egyoldalú kultúrpolitikát folytat, tagjai sorába kizárólag ideológiai alapon lehet bekerülni. Erőteljes konzervatív és ideologiai meghatározottsága folytán, valamint kivételezett és hegemonikus szerepéből adódóan tevékenysége a magyar kultúra sokszínűségét és a kortárs kritikai művészetet teljes és felszámolással fenyegeti. A NEMMA általánosabb célja, hogy tükröt állítson a kortárs képzőművészeti
színtér elégedetlenei felé: problémáikkal nincsenek egyedül, a társadalom egyéb marginalizálódó rétegei és csoportjai kritikus tömeget alkotnak. A kultúra területét érintő híreken túl a blog a kritikai művészet tiltakozó megmozdulásait, akcióit, köztéri beavatkozásait dokumentálja társadalmi és politikai kontextusba helyezve. Egyik legfontosabb célja a magyar vonatkozású információk európai nyelveken való hozzáférésének elősegítése a hazai kulturális kontextus kulturális lefordítása érdekében az európai közvélemény számára.

NEMMA (NO MMA!)

Recent legislative steps in Hungary (end of 2012) point towards the authoritarian transformation of the institutional structures and funding system of cultural life, by giving an ultra conservative artist group (MMA – what is it?) close to the rightwing government an unassailable position of power. As a result of these decisions, the government has endangered the long term autonomy, professionalism and democratic procedures of Hungarian contemporary art. (see the inteview above with the president of the MMA)

This is why this blog was started, and it serves the following purposes:
1. to articulate and to make visible the problems raised by the actual cultural governance for the HU audience
2. to document the protest actions, interventions, statements, petitions, etc which are critical in relation to these processes
3. to make visible the connections between the cultural and socio-political problems in HU
4. to culturally translate the situation for a European audience and to contextualize it against the background of similar EU issues

furthermore
– to provide a news archive and a forum for Hungarian art professionals in order to join their forces in the hope of stopping the actual processes
– to provide actual and background information in European languages (mostly English) about the above mentioned cultural developments. In this respect it addresses all the artists of the world, cultural writers, curators and any international media professionals dealing with art issues.
